the past few days

ok so I know I haven't been blogging recently cause I didn't feel like it.

but not much has happened the past few days so I'll just be brief.

Thursday,

I spent the whole day at home doing nothing. And doing nothing felt so good. Ok I didn't really do nothing of course. My grandpa took out some old videos that he has kept as fond memories until now. My grandpa, grandma and I watched these old videos together and it felt nostalgic for me even though some of the videos weren't even my memories. There was one whole video which was taken by my grandpa when all his grandchildren were babies/toddlers. My video showed a baby me in the cot and my grandpa was holding his video camera filming me. I looked curiously into the camera and I kept smiling. Heck, when I saw my baby self smiling, the 18 year old me also smiled. And I kept moving my hands up and down. It looked as if I was climbing some invisible wall. I always knew climbing was a natural thing for me and this was proof! Haha but it was pleasant to watch all the videos and think about how life was like in the past. My grandpa also filmed my other grandpa (my dad's dad) who was eating lunch at that time with the whole family. He passed away before I was born so I never got to see him, only photos to remember him by. But that was the first time I ever saw him in motion, even though it was a video of him eating which would be considered trivial to most people, it still meant a lot to me that I could hear his voice in the audio and see his actions in the video. From what I heard about him from my family, he would have doted on me a lot and would definitely got along well with me. He was a sporty and active guy and I guess that's where I got that genes from, since none of my family members can ever be considered sporty and active. My dad always said he would be very proud of me if he had a grandson like me and I was quite similar in character to him and that always makes me happy because even though he's no longer around and I never met him, I'm glad that his spirit is watching over me. It is a pity that cancer took away the chance for me to know him...

so apart from that, that day was like a bonding session with my two grandparents. We talked as we watched all the videos. My grandpa would always remark at the person in the video and say what the person is like now. Whether the person is still alive, whether the person is doing fine, what job the person is in now etc. My grandma was talking to me about something which really got me thinking. The videos really proved to me that my grandparents took great care of all of us and raised each and every one of their grandchildren with their blood and sweat. Most of my cousins and my siblings were raised by both of them because our parents were mostly at work at the time. It was like a family day care. So she said she was feeling rather sad that my oldest sister, who is a hardcore Christian, gave quite a high percentage of her salary as a donation to her church. and my grandma was sad that she gave so much to God, and yet not a single cent to her grandparents who raised her up. Now don't get me wrong here, I'm not criticising my sister or Christianity. She can do whatever she wants with her money and I'm not one to judge. But I felt sorry for my grandma who didn't get any allowance from her. Even though I believe money isn't everything, a bare minimum should at least be given to the ones that raise you up. Without whom, you are just nothing in this world and the money you earned would have never existed. So my grandma told me that she wished that one day when I grow older and get a proper job, I would be filial to her. and it's not just the money. it's also about spending quality time with her, something that she felt she lacked because most of the time, my sisters are spending time in church on weekends. I'm not against Christianity/religion, people have every right to choose to believe what they want to. But caring for your loved ones and showing them some concern, I'm sure that's beholden of everyone, regardless of the God they believe in.. well that's all I have to say about filial piety.

But I enjoyed that day and I will treasure it because it is one of the few moments I get to spend time with my grandparents alone.

Friday,

went to school for a mock ippt with nic and chee. to summarise, my 2.4 really sucks even though I've been running quite a lot recently. I guess it's not enough and I better train harder. Only about two more weeks left...  we had lunch at the sch canteen and talked cock just like old times :) I know this sounds retarded but I miss the NJ school canteen food. I hope army food can match up to its standard! looking forward to our next ippt training session soon. really need to get ready for NS.

after that went for climbing training with the juniors which was ok. we were split into groups and each group set one endurance route on each wall. I was teamed up with deathmetaljap and squirrel on the tsunami wall. MG also joined our team. I think she wanted to give us some killer moves! So we did add 3 to get our 30 moves. jups came along to edit it and when we were finally done setting it and taping it up, we realised it wasn't 30 moves but less than that. but it's still damn hard and I struggled to complete it. I completed it in the end but I had to give every ounce of my effort to do so. Almost died at the ending move... after that we tried each other's endurance routes. then after that we tried some routes and ended training with hangboard training. haven't done hangboard training for a long time, luckily it didn't go too bad for me. managed to complete some of jups' insane routes too that day :D after that some of us went to eat dinner with jups. overall it was a very satisfying day :) even though I was the only senior that went, I still enjoyed myself a lot. shall treasure all these moments training with the team before I enlist :)

Saturday and Sunday,

slacked my weekends away, but got to spend some time with my family at least.

*Edited on Monday, 28 Jan because my blogger screwed up and didn't let me complete my sentence LOL

So anyway, I just came back from eating lunch with my mum. Gonna go for a run later too. hmm.. guess it's time for me to run more and climb less. friends less and family more? O.O many outings to look forward to before I enlist. And with CNY nearing, life is going to be great :)

reflections

went back to school to train/help out today.

screwed in the remainder of the tiles. but the wall is so full now I think there's not much to add any more. jups painted his cool design on the side of the roof, i think it looks good :)

which means we're finally done with maintenance of the wall! there's still the climbing wall though. can't wait for a fresh new configuration for the climbing wall, it's time for more difficult shit like 6Cs LOL.

anyway, I was feeling quite tired and didn't feel like blogging at first, but decided that I should probably blog because my days are really numbered... and once I'm in the army I think this blog is gonna die. I hope I find the will and the time to blog when I get to book out.

so I was reflecting today and discussing a lot with my batch climbers about the future of climbing and the current climbers in the team. actually I'm really happy that they're all generally enthu about climbing and there's not much for me to say except that they are all good climbers. in fact I'm quite confident that they will all do well in climbing, but it's the attitude side that I was kinda worried about, esp for the guys... well won't really say much here. maybe it's time to talk to some of them about it... I just hope that when they became seniors themselves, they would change for the better because they have greater responsibilities on their shoulders.

Don't really know what else to say, so I shall end off here.

sometimes

sometimes I just wish I could be in army right now. Just put me in there so I can be disconnected from the outside world. to not give a shit about socialising, to just focus on what I'm tasked to do.

but sometimes... wait nope. I want to go into army, there's never a time I wish I wouldn't have to go.

but yeah, sometimes I wish I could just go in right this moment and leave behind everything. This is quite similar to my dream of migrating some day into some secluded corner of the world and just live their happily and make do with what I have.

maybe I have been too arrogant and it's time for me to show more humility. but well, the world will only put you down if you're not confident of yourself, sadly. Maybe I don't have to be humble, I just have to be tolerant of every piece of shit thrown at me. Just take everything in my stride and not give a damn.

being pissed off at night sucks like hell.

i need to calm down and not rage so much...

I wish I were emotionless so I won't be screwed up by my emotions.

and I really want to vent it all out.

and my only outlet...

I hope I'll get a chance to climb tmr. Even if I don't, I'm gonna step up the intensity of my climbing sessions and just let it all go. Forget all the troubles and doubts on my mind and just train so freaking hard that my fingers will hurt me more than my emotions.

the body is strong but the heart is weak. and so the heart must die...

I made a new year's resolution for last year. luckily I didn't make the same one again this year. because I would have lost it. And it's only January...

CNY FAQ

Ok so I know CNY isn't here yet, but I'm kinda bored and so I've decided to come up with a list of CNY Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that relatives are probably going to ask me soon.. and besides, it's only less than three more weeks to CNY, and exactly three more weeks to enlistment! :D

Ok let's do this.

First, the relative will think about some relevant topic:

For Army enquiries, please press 1.

For School enquiries, please press 2.

For Relationship enquiries, please press 3.

For University enquiries, please press 4.

For Appearance enquiries, please press 5.

For other enquiries, please press the # key, and our customer service will not give a damn about you.

1)

Q: So when are you going to army?
A: 13 Feb, which is right after I'm done answering all your questions.

Q: Tekong?
A: Yeah.

Q: What PES are you?
A: B1, because I'm underweight.

Q: Are you prepared for army?
A: Yeah I guess so.

Q: How are you feeling for army?
A: Excited and a little nervous.

Q: Do you aim to get into OCS?
A: I'll go wherever they want me to.

Q: What do you aim to do in army then?
A: Just to survive, get out without any severe injury and to have a meaningful 2 years.

Relative either talks about:

Male relative Q: In my time in army, there wasn't the plefmpajfpakmdak;dm;asjdaskdjapfwnfwkpjfwpef
A: ...
OR

Female relative Q: MY SON IN THE ARMY LAST TIME HE VERY GOOD HE ALWAYS GET ALL THE RANKS AND THE KENNGPIWGJPJFLNLNVLSNVLNVLDSKNVPAEFJEPAJFAKJF

A: k.

and then either the conversation ends, or a new topic is brought up.

2)

Q: How's school?
A: I've already graduated.

Q: Oh what school were you from?
A: NJC. I probably told you this last year and the year before, and you're gonna ask me this next year again.

Q: How was A levels?
A: Ok I guess, I screwed up 1 subject but it's fine. I'll just await my result and see where it can take me.

Q: So what are you doing now?
A: Most of the time I'm just climbing and running to train for NS.

Q: Oh you are a rock climber?
A: Yeah please remember this so next year you won't have to ask me the same question again.

Q: Was that your CCA in school?
A: -explains the whole deal about OAC and Climbing- relative will probably nod in agreement time to time but isn't listening and has already queued the next question once I'm done talking.

Relative either asks:

Q: What is climbing like?
A: Well actually I do both sport climbing and bouldering, but I focus more on bouldering. Bouldering is climbing without a harness on a short wall and when you fall you land on a mattress. It is quite intense because your weight will not be supported by a rope and olwfhpiogepjbds;hafbvDSIHV;jfvndS;LKVNDS;KLVNOJSBOUSsoihgsoifjspdofj

OR

Q: Where do you usually climb?
A: There are a lot of places in Singapore to climb actually. These climbing facilities are located at Farrer Park, Mountbatten, Macpherson and Yishun SAFRA. Usually I go to Farrer Park and Mountbatten more often. Sometimes I head back to school to climb and help out.

AND THEN

Q: Oh that sounds interesting, maybe I will try it someday.

and the relative will never try it because he/she doesn't really give a shit.

3)

Q: So do you have a girlfriend?
A: Nope.

Q: So when are you going to get one?
A: how the hell would I know? you never know when things might happen.

Q: But both your sisters already got boyfriends.
A: Yeah, and their boyfriends are not 18 years old like me.

4)

Q: What uni course do you want to take?
A: I'm thinking between law or chem engineering. but I need to see my results first of course.

Q: Oh which uni are you intending to go?
A: NUS I guess. Or if I'm lucky enough, get a scholarship and go overseas to study, far far away from all of you ahahahah

Q: So you want to be a lawyer/chem engineer next time?
A: No i want to be a karang guni.

5)

Q: Why are you so skinny?
A: Why the fuck are you so fat?

Q: Why you suddenly grow so tall?
A: 3 years ago complain say I too short, now say I too tall. My height doesn't change to please you.

Q: Why your legs so skinny?
A: Please have a seat sir/ma'am, let me show you how weak your arms are :)

Q: Why are you wearing a black shirt for CNY?
A: So you want me to wear a red shirt for your funeral?

lol that was quite retarded.

I SHALL PRINT THIS AND BRING ALONG FOR CNY AND SEE HOW ACCURATE IT REALLY IS. HOPEFULLY NOBODY PRESSES THE # KEY.

off to eat lunch now and then climb later. bye faggots.

my days are numbered

haven't blogged for quite a while. I've been busy these days doing lots of things, but definitely things that I enjoy doing :)

anyway, today was my parent's wedding anniversary. so they went out to eat dinner together and now the house is rather quiet. my mum said that my two sisters collaborated to make a card for my parent's anniversary. and both of them didn't even tell me about it, they didn't even ask me to help them or anything. which i was quite pissed at, because my mum may now think that i'm an ungrateful bastard. I know it's my fault for not really caring about their special day, but to be honest, I'm the kind of person that prefers spending quality time with my loved ones, rather than expressing how I feel about them over a piece of paper. I mean, writing a card is fine, but to me, my two sisters are rather hypocritical. They don't spend as much time as I do with my parents, they are rarely home to eat dinner with them etc. I mean, sure, they have their boyfriends and their jobs to do, but they have to put time aside to bond with their parents too. So yeah, I told my mum how I felt about this, and told her that spending time with them was something I treasured more. I'm sure my parents know I do love them and I do appreciate everything they have done for me, and this reassurance can definitely be felt from the time I spend with them, and I don't see a point in reassuring this to them through a card. Actions speak louder than words.

so today was a rather relaxed day. we scrubbed the remaining tiles and painted the boulder wall. I think it looks nice, especially the black colour. It looks slick and cool :D Looking forward to putting up the squeaky clean tiles and setting new routes soon! Oh and surprisingly, today I managed to do quite a few one arm pull ups on both arms. I was quite shocked that I could do it too :O but that was on the hanging handlebar in the boulder gym, so I shall try it on the actual pull up bar soon when I get the chance. I can feel that I'm definitely getting fitter and stronger, and maybe even better in climbing then I used to be. But it kinda sucks to be strong now, when I'm gonna lose everything very soon :( But it's ok, at least I managed to reach somewhere right? and it's not the end for sure, after NS, INTER MEN HERE I COME.

anyway dinner was quite sian. actually it was already sian the moment I checked my phone after everything was done at the boulder gym. was waiting for this reply for so long, only to be turned down... my chances are really running out as the days deplete away mercilessly. it was never easy to begin with, being two worlds apart... but I still chose that path in the end. maybe some may think I'm quite stupid and foolish when the seemingly perfect one was staring right in my face, but they will never know what I've been through to know what's the right choice. Even though following my heart would likely only end up with me hurting myself, I'm still glad I did not give up all this time and was determined throughout. I thought I was close enough, but I guess the differences just tears it all apart. giving up always seems the easy way out, but I will never consider that... no matter what happens next time.

so enough about emo shit. gonna enjoy tmr. extremely psyched to climb until I collapse..

climbing days :D

So today I went to watch the finals for gravical. managed to catch a glimpse of the inter finals when I arrived. TK was super strong! Glad he got a podium finish in the end, and got the prize that he truly sought after ;)

Then went to CA to climb for a while, before heading back to the gravical wall again to watch the open finals. It was very exciting and thrilling to see the climbers give their all for the competition. They were the pros and it was inspiring to see every one of them climb :) kinda shocking that nobody topped any of the 3 routes for open men. it just goes to show that it was the routes were that insane and were probably close to impossible. some day I wish I could be as good as that. But I don't know if I'll ever be that strong.

After watching the open finals, we had dinner and then we headed back to CA to climb again. Tried a few of buff's routes and felt quite on form today because I could finish all of them except for one. The route which I didn't finish made me realise that my technique/footwork isn't very good, I rely too much on my finger strength... Guess I need to practice/train more on this when I still have the time. Got to rectify this mistake of cutting loose too much if I want to dream of smelling novice men finals. And buff's routes are getting more interesting every day, I think his route setting skills are definitely improving! We climbed until 9pm which was the closing time. We all thought that the closing time was 10pm :( so in the end we didn't get to climb much but it was still a great day. Watching the finals really psyched me up and fuelled my motivation to climb more and more, to get stronger day by day.

The funniest/creepiest thing that happened today was that there was some tranny spectator at the gravical wall who was harassing the other spectators and being irritating LOLOLOLOL. I'm still wondering why the tranny was even there in the first place. Guess he/she just wants to be a public nuisance, and a big crowd like that was her/his best chance at it.

Gotta think of a way to maintain my standard when I go to NS. Or at least try not to become lousier that much. I don't want all this training to go to waste. But it's not gonna be easy to do this. Many NSmen who were ex climbers couldn't do it. But I will definitely try. And that means having the discipline to climb when I book out. If I put my heart and mind to it, I know I will be able to do it. And to end off this post, I shall set a goal/target for myself: get into novice finals before I enter university/after NS. and hopefully, get a podium finish too...

Family Dinner

so today was a rather boring day. felt quite pissed off that I couldn't go out to climb because I had to stay at home for a reunion dinner with my paternal side of the family. The dinner had to start earlier because the little kid (my nephew) had to go home early or some shit. Don't really like kids these days. Most of them are either fat or rude, or both. And this kid was damn rude. Could already foresee it from the way he was raised. But it didn't matter much, not like he's my child anyway. Some day if I ever have kids, I'll make sure he/she won't turn out like that. So what if the parents are rich and successful? The kid would never grow up the right way under their care even with all the money invested.

On the other hand, I prefer the other family from my paternal side that came along because they are more friendly and approachable and I'm sure they'll raise their child well, who is still a little baby now :) I'm not a big fan of little kids, but I guess there is joy in nurturing a child and seeing them go through the different stages in life, just like you have.

So anyway, was feeling quite sian about the dinner, but in the end it turned out okay. Despite all the small talk and trivial conversations, it was time well spent because I rarely get to talk to any of them. So of course, there was the topic of my enlistment, and as usual, I had to repeat the same old date to them "Feb 13" which I probably have said over a million times to the same relatives. So one of my cousins realised that was before  Valentine's Day, and asked me if I felt sad about it. I just replied I was glad that it was after CNY, so at least I get to enjoy CNY. Then he said that he used to call his wife (then his gf) every night when he was in BMT. And the wife, who was sitting next to me at the dining table, asked me to do the same. LOLOLOLOL. I just had to give an awkward smile...

If only it were that easy huh.

Gravical 2013

Gravical 2013. It was the first climbing competition which I was serving as a route judge. Judging was quite tiring but it was thrilling to see the climbers complete the route that I was judging and cheering them on.

Anyway, the juniors did okay today. The girls did very well, could tell that most of them were happy with their performance. But what really amazed me was that our only JH girl HY managed to flash 1 route, and topped another route but didn't finish it in time because time was up. It was a waste, but it didn't matter because even though it wasn't recorded as a top in the results, at least she knew for herself that she had the ability to ascend the route, which is good enough already. If she remains in the team and trains consistently, she'll definitely make it far in climbing when she reaches SH1/2. Hopefully it won't be another case of desertion. But I'm pretty sure that won't happen again... Things went pretty fucked up ever since that happened. As for the junior guys, well, they seem very disappointed with their results. But honestly, the routes were sick. Some of them thought they could definitely complete some routes. I thought so too. Give them some of those routes on any other day during training sessions I'm sure they would top it in no time. But to me, I felt the problem was the mindset and attitude when they face competitions. They are all good and strong climbers, they just need the proper mentality and apply the right strategy to get the best possible score. Still proud of every one of them for training hard for this competition, and whether or not this competition has been bad or good for them, they should leave it behind them because it's all in the past, and just train even harder and work on their own individual weaknesses. I've been through competitions which I've come out feeling like shit. I've also been through competitions coming out feeling like I just accomplished the impossible. But in both cases, I still carried on to train hard and not to lose my focus. So don't be disheartened or don't be complacent, always look forward :)

Anyway, gonna play a few games of dota 1 before going to sleep. Got a bad headache from all the excitement today and having to wake up early.

sigh

maybe I'm just tired. maybe I'm just sick of gaming today. Or maybe I just don't like dota 2 at all. So from now on, I'll only play if my friends want to play. When it comes to pub, back to dota 1 on warcraft 3. Even though that has more lag and more leavers, at least I understand what's going on. Or maybe I should just uninstall d2 and leave it for good.

Or I should just fucking quit playing computer games. I'm just tiring myself out at night and playing for the sake of wasting time away. I should go read a book or some other shit rather than doing this almost every night.

Sucks that I am ranting this in the middle of the night. Just feel so fucked up right now, all over a computer game which I really hate and don't feel comfortable playing. Kinda stupid that my mood is ruined over a fucking program. Gotta grow out of this stupid shit and realise that there's more worthwhile things to do out there.. But at night, it seems as though there's nothing to do. And to be honest, it's times like this I wish I was just thrown into army right at that very moment.. So at least I don't have to worry about keeping myself occupied.

Or maybe, just maybe.. I simply had a bad day today, or more of towards the end of the day and what I heard. Even though I knew shit was definitely being talked about behind my back, and I was probably cursed and insulted by the people whom I thought were friends, I tried to keep it out of my mind and not let it affect me. But it definitely did affect me, because I still care. They'll never understand I guess. To them, I'm just a traitor that likes to climb all day and all night and doesn't give a shit. But there's more to it than just that, there's so much more they'll never know because they don't know what I've been through.

Shall stop ranting here, enough crap that I got from today. I'll enjoy tomorrow and forget all the troubles I once had. What's past is past, and soon, computer games would just be a distant memory...

Uncertainty

It's not going to be easy now that the holidays are over. The days that I have left to spend time with the people around me are getting less and less as my enlistment date draws near. I just hope that I have one last opportunity before I go in. It could very well be my last anyway.

Going to eat lunch now and set off for CA to climb. After that there's the gravical briefing at night. Can't wait for tmr's gravical competition cause it's the first time I will be a judge/spotter and not taking part in it myself :D

Better end off here cause I think I'm gonna be late.

Anyway, here's a song that I listen to quite a lot recently.

losing track of time

Can't even rmb what I did the past few days, everyday seems to pass by in a blur. Anyway, yesterday was the last training the juniors had before gravical this Friday. Then there's open house tmr and thurs. After the training yesterday with them, I headed to rose's house for our class bbq! It was great to see most of them again because we haven't seen each other for quite some time. Volunteering for gravical this friday as a judge/spotter, looking forward to seeing the team's performance that day too :)

so to summarise my life nowadays, it's just climbing every alternate day, and running during the days I'm not climbing. It seems to work, I feel fitter now. much fitter. I hope I'll be physically and mentally prepared for NS. It seems as though right now my life is just focused on one important date - Feb 13. All other dates don't really matter. Because to me, this year starts for real on that date. The moment when my entire lifestyle will change, for better or for worse.

school has started. It feels really great not having to study any more, to be out of this rat race / paper chase for now. Everyone's out there getting a job, while I'm just sitting here waiting for my enlistment day~ Anyway, I'm not really interested in getting a job now. I don't see much of a point...

Damn it I don't even know why I came online to blog when now I have nothing to blog about. This post shall end here.

and the days go by...

Yesterday was a very eventful day. To summarise, played bball in the morning, went to climb and OS, and then the climbers + MG + jups came to my house for steamboat reunion dinner. The dinner was really heartwarming to me because the climbers are like the closest NJ family I have. And it made me hope that in the years to come, we would still gather at someone's house for a reunion dinner to catch up on old times.

so today I overslept and was the latest to reach school. Cleaned the boulder gym and the equipment in the climbing cage. After that we went to watch a climbing movie at the TC block while waiting for the equipment to dry under the sun. The movie made me realise that I am really NOTHING compared to the pros out there. But maybe some day I'll be good enough. Seeing the middle finger route was scary as hell. And the pure determination of one of the climbers that climbed a boulder route for 12 days straight before finally completing it was inspiring. headed back to the boulder gym when the movie ended, and that was when we started doing the pull ups we owed from last night's retarded poker game. can't believe I owed 257 pull ups. luckily we evenly spread the no. of pull ups so each of us did 56 in the end. after that went to play bball for a while before I went home because I was feeling rather sleepy.

and now here I am blogging.

some thoughts that I had for today:

don't let anyone control your life except yourself.
do what you feel like doing.

It's great that the As are over. These days, I plan what I do based on what I feel like doing, and not what I need to do. I hated how I still had to study back then when I didn't feel like it. At least now I have more control over my life, and it feels great to have this feeling of freedom. Because really soon, in 41 more days, the army is gonna take control over this freedom.

Gonna stop here and eat dinner, maybe play some dota later before going to sleep.
